About the Natural History Museum of L.A. County:
Sadly, the Dinosaurs Hall at the Natural History Museum of L.A. County is currently closed for renovation, scheduled to reopen (bigger and better than ever) in 2011. However, this museum is still worth visiting for its excellent "habitat halls" devoted to African and North American mammals, not to mention the Schreiber Hall of Birds and the Marine Hall. At the Ralph M. Parsons Discovery Center, kids can handle live reptiles and explore small fossils.
The Natural History Museum of L.A. County is also the custodian of the famous La Brea Tar Pits, the submerged fossils from which are displayed at the nearby Page Museum. Although the Tar Pits formed way too late to capture any dinosaurs (in fact, they’re a mere 40,000 years old), these sticky puddles of good have yielded a rich array of ice-age mammals, including mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and giant ground sloths.
