Some of the world's most famous dinosaur fossils have been discovered in Canada, so it's no surprise that the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa features an extensive dinosaur gallery. Three-quarters of this museum's 300 specimens are real (not plaster casts), comprising such rarely displayed genuses as Daspletosaurus, Chasmosaurus and Sinornithosaurus (which was actually dug up in China), not to mention the giant sea turtle Archelon and the "walking whale" Ambulocetus.
One innovation of the Canadian Museum of Nature's fossil gallery is that the dinosaurs are separated from the ancient mammals by the "Extinction Theatre," where visitors can see a recreation of the asteroid impact that doomed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. If you're curious about what dinosaurs eventually evolved into, there's also a separate bird gallery, featuring over 500 species, complete with multimedia and hands-on exhibits.
