How Was Allosaurus Discovered?

By November 8, 2012

Follow me on:

In a way, Allosaurus was discovered not once, but three or four times--thanks to some overeager 19th-century paleontologists who didn't finish their homework. Here's a look at the discovery and naming of Allosaurus.

Well written article; those bone wars were a mixed blessing; so much good yet so much confusion. They were an arrogant pair! I never heard the background of poor Allosauras and that was neat!! Keep up the good work!!

Love your “dinsosaurs.about.com.”

As a kid I, like many kids, loved dinosaurs. One of the happiest days of my life (not including wedding day and birth of granddaughter!!) was when I got three of four plastic models of dinosaurs and played with them for hours in the sandbox at our school…pure bliss!!

I’m still not convinced that they are not genetic toys created by superintelligent aliens to amuse their young!!

Thanks! Keep up your super job!!

Bob
