Chocolate, Watches, and...Crocodiles?

Tuesday December 2, 2008
If you've ever used the phrase "as rare as a Swiss crocodile" (which is unlikely, since I just now made it up), it looks like you'll have to change your vocabulary. It turns out that paleontologists working in Switzerland's Jura Mountains have unearthed the remains of Metriorhynchus, a Jurassic-era crocodilian that had previously been discovered in western Europe and South America. Though not a true dinosaur itself, the aquatic Metriorhynchus shared the same territory as numerous Jurassic herbivores and carnivores, the fossils of which have also been dug up in Jura.
