Balloonasaurus Rex
Jeremy Telford, the "Balloon Guy," recently created a life-sized T. Rex skeleton out of 2,300 balloons, a week-long project that called on the talents of seven full-time balloon twisters (Jeremy and Kristin Telford, Timothy "Paco", Travis Hadley, Justin James, Brendan Rowlands, and Heather Jensen) and one paleontology student (Andrew Stanton). The giant Balloonasaur was built, bone by laborious bone, after the reconstructed skeleton of the world-famous Tyrannosaurus Sue, and it's on view for the next few days at the Museum of Natural History in Lehi, Utah. I think this is incredible! Thanks for sharing this amazing and educational use of balloons with us.
Well, well…those among us with terrible senses of humor will finally get the chance to say T. Rex went from being a bonehead to an air head…. ;-D
That is really unbelievable. Thanks for sharing it.
I’m a lucky girl - these people are my very talented friends. I am going to have fun and see Balloon Sue this week. It’s for the museum’s birthday.
That is amazing!
Balloons never cease to amaze me. I feel like I just stepped onto the magic carpet headed for balloon world.
Wow that is so real looking!
We decided to officially name her “Bubbles.” She was our most ambitious build yet, maybe next year we’ll try a Superasaurus… or not.
Love it!
Thanks, Bob, for putting the pictures and info up on the website. And yes, they really are balloons (not hot dogs or sausages).
That. Is. Amazing. No other word for it! Just amazing.
Bob, this is great! My fiance and I are clowns for a non-profit that we run called Kidz Jam. His specialty is animal balloons, I just had to show him. He loved it!!!
If this guy goes swimming in Nevada, our ichthyosaur will bite him and burst his bubbles.
For those that may not be familiar it is at the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point. As far as swimming in Nevada with the Shonisaurus, ‘Bubbles’ would probably blow away before she gets there. The whole balloon skeleton is so light that it sways a little when the air conditioning kicks in, or when someone opens the front door.
This is pretty much the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while. I’m only sorry that I’m out of state for the summer and only get to see the pics. (funny that it sways in the AC.)
that is really cool, great job
Just amazing. How long can the balloons be expected to last before popping or deflating?
Amazing!! I can’t wait to show my kids!
Where did they get so many bonish-colored balloons? It’s an unusual color…
Wow, that is awesome, thanks for sharing!
Love the contrast between ballons’ fragility and the T-Rex’ alleged ferocity. Folks *gotta* look a the link photos, the one here doesn’t show the awesome scale of this model.
They said the dinosaur would be taken down after the birthday party is over on Friday. I know they put a special additive called hyfloat in so that it would stay longer.
And, you can order bags of specific colors. There’s a great place in Salt Late to get balloons and stuff, though they may have had to order this color. I made a balloon Stegosaurus once…though it was *only* about the size of a couch
WOW!!! Thats Friggin’ awesome!
excellent work
This guy should rent a room for throwing kids’ parties and make giant balloon stuff to go in it! Only please move to Nebraska, cause I’d want to throw my baby parties there!
How long is this dinosaur going to last, by the way? If it took a week just to make, it just makes me curious.
To all parents, this shows just how important a college education. Such talent;and good use of time and resources.
Do they have a design available? This could be a fabulous project for kids.
Totally cool!
It’s kind of gross! I agree with Kristin that they look like a bunch of sausages! lol.
I love him. I wish they would polyurathane or modpodge or do something to him so he would last for more than a week or so.
How about a triballoonatops?
Totally cool, I wished I lived closer so I could see in person
This thing is sa-weet!!! I love it, I am going to send the link so my nephew can see it, too bad his mommy cannot get him here to see it in person, he would love it!
AMAZING!
How cool is that?
Jeremy is a Recreation Management major in college. He was able to use his learning to manage our team and organize the build. We ordered the “Mocha Brown” colored balloons from tmyers.com and the Hi-Float solution (from Zurchers in Orem) that we tested with a one-balloon dog (it lasted over a month) should help Bubbles to stay mostly inflated for the rest of the week (two weeks total for the build and display).
